Whistlers Bend is a 30 acre lake that is stocked with Trout, has an excellent Crappie population, and also has Largemouth Bass and Bluegill available. Trout fishing is catch and release only with artificial lures. Members may keep 30 Bass and/or Crappie per day. No fish cleaning is allowed at the lake. The bass in this lake are on the smaller side, likely stunted due to over-population.
This lake has excellent depth, over 20 feet deep at full pool. Currently, shoreline fishing is limited to the boat launch area and from the dam, but will expand as livestock fencing expands. Boats are recommended so you can gain access to more water. Electric motors are fine, but no gas motors are allowed.
There is a county park just minutes away from the property at Whistlers Bend Park, which is situated on the North Umpqua River, an excellent fishery in it’s own right. Members wishing to camp can make reservations through the county park.
This property is an active ranch with both cattle and sheep. All gates must be closed securely. Dogs are allowed on a leash in the boat launch area, or in a boat on the lake. You can also purchase beef directly from the owners through their website: www.whistlersbendbeef.com
Whistlers Bend Lake is well worth the drive. The fishing for trout during the Spring and Fall is excellent. The Crappie fishery is very good, with nice sized fish and lots of them. The Crappie fishing stands out because it’s difficult to find good Crappie fishing without driving to Eastern Oregon. Camping at Whistlers Bend Park is arranged through reservations with the county park. They have two campground loops, five yurts, and full hookups. Reservations can be made by searching for Whistlers Bend Park.
